New York Giants Playoff Elimination Begins Race For The #1 Draft Pick

Jameis Winston New York Giants talking to Robinson

The New York Giants’ downward slide continues, as they are the first franchise eliminated from the playoffs this season. Two weeks ago, the Giants fired their head coach, Brian Daboll, after amassing only two wins out of the first twelve games.

Daboll went 20-40-1 with New York in just under four seasons at the helm. To add insult, former first-round talents Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley have gone on to immediate success upon their departure from the team.

Somehow, Giants general manager Joe Schoen has retained his job despite his hiring of Daboll, and allowing Jones and Barkley to slip away – one of them to a division rival.

With nothing left to play for in 2025, the Giants’ focus must shift to the immediate future and next year’s draft. NY holds the second overall pick at the moment, with the Tennessee Titans poised to select first for the second draft in a row.

Current 2026 NFL Draft Order

1 – Tennessee 1-10 .091

2- NY Giants 2-10 .167

3 – New Orleans 2-9 .182

4 – NY Jets 2-9 .182

5 – Las Vegas 2-9 .182

6 – Cleveland 3-8 .273

7 – Washington 3-8 .273

8 – Cincinnati 3-8 .273

9 – Arizona 3-8 .273

10 – Miami 4-7 .364

The odds for betting on the NFL Draft suggest that Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson will be selected first overall. Although the Titans are clearly struggling, they appear to be entrenched with rookie quarterback Cam Ward and would be unlikely to choose another QB after only one year.

2026 NFL Draft Odds For The First Overall Pick

  • Ty Simpson +155
  • Fernando Mendoza +250
  • Rueben Bain Jr +350
  • Dante Moore +900
  • Arvell Reese +1000
  • LaNorris Sellers +2500
  • Keldric Faulk +3300
  • Arch Manning +4000
  • Jayden Maiava +5000

Could NFL betting sites be suggesting that Tennessee will trade its top pick? Likely, because the second-overall-rated player, according to NFL Draft futures, is Fernando Mendoza, quarterback of the Indiana Hoosiers.

The only non-QB garnering top draft pick potential is Rueben Bain Jr, defensive lineman for the Miami Hurricanes. Bain could be the default pick for the Titans should they retain the top pick and not find a suitable trading partner before the draft begins.

The takeaway is that the Giants should have their choice between the top two quarterbacks in next year’s draft, unless they win another game or two over the final six weeks.

New York Giants Remaining Schedule

  • December 1 @ New England Patriots
  • December 14 vs. Washington Commanders
  • December 21 vs. Minnesota Vikings
  • Week 17 @ Las Vegas Raiders (flex game)
  • Week 18 vs. Dallas Cowboys (flex game)

The game against New England in Week 13 seems like a certain loss, but they have a reasonable chance at playing competitive football against their final four opponents.
