The Polls Are Tight, But The Trump vs Harris Odds Favor Donald

A voter about to decide between Harris and Trump on their ballot

Regardless of which 2024 presidential candidate wins the election tonight, history will be made.

If Kamala Harris wins, she will become the first female President of the United States. If elected, she will be the second person of color to hold the Oval Office and is already the second woman to become the nominee of a major political party in the USA.

Hillary Clinton was the first female Presidential nominee, losing to Trump in 2016.

If Donald Trump wins, he’ll be the second POTUS in history to win non-consecutive terms. The first to do it was Grover Cleveland in 1884 and 1893. Benjamin Harris served the term in between Cleveland’s tenures.

Election betting sites are offering slightly different odds for Trump and Harris, but they all have Donald in the lead. The margin is roughly 80 points,

US Presidential Election 2024 Winner

  • Donald Trump Sr. -165
  • Kamala Harris +145

Before last weekend, Trump’s lead was at least double what it is now. His prior lead and Harris’ ascension are likely due to increased betting activity with election day approaching.

The political polls and the betting odds are usually more closely aligned than they have been during the 2024 election cycle. Trump and Harris have been neck-and-neck in polling data, but the sportsbooks have had Donald out in front by a sizable margin.

The only true certainty we face tonight is that a new President will be elected.

The winner will impact the fate of the Russia-Ukraine war, the conflict between Israel, Hamas, and Iran, and tense foreign relations with China. Domestically, women’s rights and the economy have taken the forefront.

Can There Be A Tie?

To win a Presidential election, a minimum of 270 Electoral College votes are required. There is an even number of votes in 2024, allowing for the potential of a tie between Trump and Harris after all states have decided.

With the polls so close between the two, is there any potential for a tie in 2024? The following political prop bet at Bovada suggests that it is a possibility.

Election Specials

  • 269-269 tie in Electoral College +1400

The +1400 moneyline odds offered on this proposition convert to a 7% chance of success.

If a tie occurs, the US House of Representatives decides who wins. Each state is allowed to submit a single vote for either candidate. With the GOP holding 26 states to the DNC’s 22, it is safe to say that Trump would secure the win in this scenario.
