Last night, Fox News aired an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris conducted by Brett Baier. The largely conservative news outlet presented a challenge that Harris was prepared to face. Baier pulled no punches, offering a series of hard-hitting questions that challenged the DNC’s presidential hopeful.
The thirty-minute interview included subjects that ranged from Biden’s reversal of his policies regarding Mexico, transgender surgeries for prisoners, and whether Trump supporters are stupid.
Baier claims that Harris and her team showed up late, which he believes was an attempt to get him off his game. The live-to-tape interview had to begin no later than 5:15 PM to make the cutoff for the show’s 6 PM start time.
Harris sat down for cameras at 5:17 PM.
Harris’ Fox News interview comes at a time when she and Trump are deadlocked in swing state polls. The move may have been risky, but her campaign believes platforms that lean conservative are the best outlets for reaching voters who aren’t already part of her base.
Political betting sites began favoring Harris upon her entrance into the race, but her odds have declined since October began. Trump has surged ahead in the election odds and now holds a comfortable lead over Harris at most online sportsbooks.
US Presidential Election 2024 Winner
- Donald Trump Sr. -160
- Kamala Harris +135
Bovada Sportsbook has Trump in the lead by 95 points, his most extensive since Biden exited the race last summer. While these odds are often legitimate indicators of winners, they only represent the current betting pools.
When a political wager (or any other type of bet) is made at a book, the oddsmakers keep a tally. For instance, if a political prop bet is created and all the action comes in on one candidate, that creates a situation where the book ends up in the red.
The books must adjust the odds to slow down wagers for one side and increase them for the other until the money being bet on both candidates is even.
Did The Interview Impact The Odds?
The odds for Harris to win have slipped by 10 to 20 points in the hours following the Fox News interview. These fluctuations have been continuous for weeks, but the shift could still be in process as of this writing.
Without another debate on the schedule, events such as these become paramount in the march toward election day. Trump hosted an all-female town hall meeting yesterday, so anything is possible between now and November 5th.
