Will A Win Over Julio César Chávez Jr. Legitimize Jake Paul?

Jake Paul and Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. facing off at a press conference

On Saturday, June 28th, the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, will host Jake Paul’s latest attempt at establishing himself as a legitimate professional boxer.
This time, his opponent is former world champion Julio César Chávez Jr., son of legendary boxer Julio César Chávez, winner of championships in numerous weight classes.

The fight can be purchased on pay-per-view on DAZN.

Jake Paul now sports a win-loss record of 11-1, with his one loss coming via decision to Tommy Fury, brother of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
Paul’s most recent victory was a sloppy but decisive win over Mike Tyson in November 2024 on Netflix.

Julio César Chávez Jr. is now 39 years old. He is a former WBC middleweight champion, but he will likely struggle to keep up with the younger Paul in the later rounds.

The lead-up to the fight has been characterized by intense rhetoric. Chávez Jr. issued a stern warning to Paul, stating, “You don’t play boxing. I am not some YouTuber or UFC fighter. I am a real former world champion.”

His father, Julio César Chávez Sr., has also expressed confidence in his son’s abilities, stating, “If he keeps training like this, I have no doubt he beats Jake.”

Jake Paul, on the other hand, has embraced the challenge. He views this fight as an opportunity to demonstrate his skills against a seasoned boxer and to further legitimize his boxing career.

How do boxing sportsbooks feel about Paul’s chances? Pretty good. Jake is favored to win with a commanding -900 moneyline, suggesting his likelihood of victory is in the range of 90%.
