The National Football League’s trade deadline is November 5th, but the NFL front office approved two massive deals yesterday that will set the tone for the rest of the season in the AFC East.
The New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills are geared toward winning a Super Bowl right now, and both franchises made a significant step in that direction by acquiring legitimate number-one wide receivers.
The Jets traded for Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders, re-pairing him with Aaron Rodgers. While together in Green Bay, the two were arguably the most potent quarterback-wide receiver tandem in the league.
The Bills received Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns, making it the fourth team he has played for during his distinguished career.
New York Jets
The Jets just fired their head coach, and following their 23-20 loss to the Bills in Week 6, they decided to upgrade the offense. Davane Adams and Aaron Rodgers should inject the needed firepower to add a few more points to their average per game, but is there still time to recover this season now that they are 2-4?
For Adams, the Raiders received a conditional third-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Their current odds for total wins suggest they’ll finish above eight, and their chances of winning the AFC title imply they could finish among the top seven playoff teams.
- Over/Under Total Wins: Over 7.5 Wins (-180)
- AFC Championship Odds: +1600 (6th)
- Odds To Win Super Bowl LIX: +3000 (11th)
Buffalo Bills
Most critics were betting on the Buffalo Bills to have a minor setback in 2024-25 based on a few key player departures in the offseason. Buffalo has struggled against inferior opponents, but they’ve managed to build a 1.5-game lead in the AFC East after six weeks.
One component that’s been missing since Stefon Diggs left the Bills is a premier wide receiver. Amari Cooper, plus a sixth-round draft pick in 2025, was traded from Cleveland to Buffalo in exchange for a third-round pick in 2025 and a seventh-round pick in 2026.
- Over/Under Total Wins: Under 11.5 Wins (-140)
- AFC Championship Odds: +500 (3rd)
- Odds To Win Super Bowl 59: +1000 (5th)
The AFC East
Buffalo was already the clear-cut front-runner in the AFC East, and that reality is reflected in the following NFL futures.
AFC East Winner
- Buffalo Bills -350
- New York Jets +500
- Miami Dolphins +800
- New England Patriots +10000
The Bills’ sizable lead is now 650 points, with the Jets ranked a distant second. Oddsmakers do not believe the Miami Dolphins have much of a chance to recover, even if Tua Tagovailoa returns.
