Bet On The Next Fired Coach After The Jets Terminate Robert Saleh

Robert Saleh was once one of the hottest NFL head coaching prospects on the market following a legendary tenure as the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.

The New York Jets hired Saleh in 2021, and he’s now become the first head coach to get fired during the 2024-25 season. Saleh compiled a record of 20-36 while with the Jets.

Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers is fully healthy and ready to win now. General management hit the panic button and decided to move on before another season was wasted.

In a strange move, the Jets allegedly opted to have Saleh escorted out of the building by security. This is standard operating procedure in the corporate world, but in the National Football League, the practice is uncommon and suggests some hostility from the team and potentially Saleh.

Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich has become the interim head coach for the Jets, who stand at 2-3, good for second place in the AFC East.

Online NFL sportsbooks have already created a line on who the next head coach of the Jets will be. Leading the odds is former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel.

Just behind Vrabel is former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who also served as the Jets defensive coordinator under Bill Parcells from 1997 to 1999.

The opportunity seems ripe for Belichick, as Rodgers is still in top form, and New York’s defensive unit is stout. There’s also the chance to stick it to Robert Kraft and the Patriots twice a year.

The most likely NFL coach to get fired next this season is Doug Pederson of the 1-4 Jacksonville Jaguars. Once again, Belichick has been rumored to be in the running for the Jaguars job, but whether he’d be interested is anyone’s guess.

Belichick’s recent evaluations of Jacksonville implies that additional coaching is required to get the best out of their talented roster.

“Jacksonville, you know, just hasn’t done enough things well enough to deserve to win… And they’re gonna have to be better in every area.”

To put a positive spin on the backend of this writeup, let’s shift focus to which coach is in line to become the 2024-25 NFL COTY winner. Kevin O’Connell has led his Minnesota Vikings to a 5-0 start and is way out in front of the odds to win.

The only other coach with any shot of winning after five weeks is Dan Quinn of the Washington Commanders. Quinn and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels have started 2024-25 with a 4-1 record and currently hold the top position in the NFC East.
