This will be Sean Strickland’s first title defense since winning the belt from Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 on September 10th, 2023. Dricus Du Plessis’ last fight was a TKO victory over Robert Whitaker at UFC 290 in July of last year.
Du Plessis is on an eight-fight winning streak, with his last loss occurring in October 2018 to Roberto Soldić, a combatant he had beaten just six months earlier. Strickland’s 28 total wins are impressive, but he has lost five times and suffered two defeats in 2022.
