Belichick And Saban Departures Spark Coaching Prop Bets

Bill Belichick and Nick Saban on an open highway

On Wednesday, one of the greatest college football head coaches of all time decided to call it a career. Nick Saban will no longer hold the position of head coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Since 2007, Saban has led Alabama to six NCAAF National Championships and nine SEC titles.

The following day, the New England Patriots and their longtime head coach, Bill Belichick, mutually agreed to part ways. Belichick has won more Super Bowl Championships (6) than any other coach in the history of the NFL.

Saban and Belichick spent four years together on the coaching staff of the Cleveland Browns between 1991 and 1994, although neither experienced much success during that particular tenure.

While Saban appears poised to enjoy retirement, Coach Belichick’s competitive spirit still burns brightly. Bill is only 14 victories away from tying the all-time mark that Don Shula set back in 1995 and needs to win a Lombardi without Brady to cement his legacy.

Online college football sportsbooks have responded to the Alabama coaching vacancy with the following prop bet.

Odds For The Next Alabama Head Coach

  • Dabo Swinney +105
  • Kalen DeBoer +125
  • Mike Norvell +325
  • Lane Kiffin +900
  • Steve Sarkisian +900
  • Dan Lanning +2500
  • Glenn Schumann +4000
  • DeMeco Ryans +5000
  • Kirby Smart +5000
  • Deion Sanders +6600

Clemson’s Dabo Swinney leads the odds to become the next head coach of the Crimson Tide, but Washington’s Kalen DeBoer only trails him by 20 points. FSU’s Mike Norvell is also in the running.

While there are no odds for betting on the New England Patriots and their next coaching hire, Belichick has popped up in NFL props for the vacancies of several franchises.

Bill is the leading candidate to become the next head coach for the Tennessee Titans and the Atlanta Falcons.

Odds For The Next Titans Head Coach

  • Bill Belichick +400
  • Bobby Slowik +400
  • Mike MacDonald +500
  • Ben Johnson +600
  • Mike Kafka +700
  • Dan Quinn +850
  • Jim Harbaugh +1000
  • Eric Bieniemy +1000
  • Antonio Pierce +1000
  • Brian Callahan +1400

Odds For The Next Falcons Head Coach

  • Bill Belichick +100
  • Eric Bieniemy +300
  • Ben Johnson +700
  • Kellen Moore +800
  • Jim Harbaugh +1000
  • Bobby Slowik +1000
  • Mike Vrabel +1000
  • Dave Canales +1200
  • Brian Callahan +1800

Both Tennessee and Atlanta represent fairly clean slates for Belichick to work with, but the Falcons have a few more key pieces in place. Rumors were swirling about interest in Belichick from the Commanders, but reports have surfaced suggesting that the franchise is looking in a different direction.

Still, he’s featured prominently in the following NFL betting line to become the next HC of the Commanders. Leading the odds is offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who just helped lead the Detroit Lions to their first division title in over 30 years.

Odds For The Next Commanders Head Coach

  • Ben Johnson +200
  • Bill Belichick +300
  • Jim Harbaugh +600
  • Mike MacDonald +900
  • Eric Bieniemy +1200
  • Brian Flores +1200
  • Frank Smith +1200
  • Raheem Morris +1200

The Los Angeles Chargers would seem to be a good fit for Belichick, but Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh may have his sights set on the NFL after winning the 2023-24 CFP National Championship.

Odds For The Next Chargers Head Coach

  • Jim Harbaugh -160
  • Ben Johnson +700
  • Dan Quinn +700
  • Bill Belichick +800
  • Aaron Glenn +900
  • Steve Wilks +1100
  • Eric Bieniemy +1200
  • Giff Smith +1400

The NFL coaching carousel is reaching maximum velocity as there are also available landing spots in Carolina, Las Vegas, and Seattle. Coach Belichick is an outside underdog for both the Panthers and Raiders positions but isn’t listed in the odds to become the next Seahawks HC.

Odds For The Next Panthers Full-Time Head Coach

  • Kellen Moore +200
  • Ben Johnson +400
  • Mike Macdonald +500
  • Bill Belichick +700
  • Eric Bieniemy +900
  • Todd Monken +1000
  • Brian Callahan +1000
  • Frank Smith +1100
  • Mike Vrabel +1200
  • Chris Tabor +1600

Odds For The Next Raiders Head Coach

  • Antonio Pierce -250
  • Jim Harbaugh +175
  • Bill Belichick +900
  • Rich Bisaccia +1600
  • Eric Bieniemy +1600
  • Ben Johnson +1800
  • Frank Smith +2000
  • Kellen Moore +2200
  • Ejiro Evero +2500

There does seem to be a bias for the American Football Conference when it comes to projecting Belichick’s next destination, which would explain the absence in the line for betting on the Seahawks.

Odds For The Next Seahawks Head Coach

  • Dan Quinn +100
  • Mike Vrabel +400
  • Bobby Slowik +600
  • Dave Canales +700
  • Mike MacDonald +800
  • Ben Johnson +900
  • Jim Harbaugh +1200
  • Todd Monken +1600
  • Aaron Glenn +1600

We advise placing your bets as soon as possible because college football and NFL sportsbooks will remove these head coaching odds as soon as information regarding new hires presents itself in the press and online.
