College Football Betting: Two Major ACC Matchups With CFP Implications

ACC betting lines for key 2022 games

This weekend marks a crossroads in the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference football season with two games that will largely determine the ACC’s relevancy in the College Football Playoff picture.

Gone are the days when it can be assumed that the Clemson Tigers will finish their campaign with one or fewer losses en route to the CFP. After last year’s absence from the final four, the ACC hopes to once again produce a top contender, and the best hope is currently Clemson.

The Tigers are ranked fifth in the AP Top 25 and fifth in the futures odds for betting on the CFP National Championship. Clemson also holds the top position in the ACC’s Atlantic Division, a spot they retained by defeating Wake Forest last weekend.

ACC Standings

ACC Atlantic Division

  • Clemson 2-0/4-0
  • Florida State 2-0/4-0
  • Syracuse 2-0/4-0
  • NC State 0-0/4-0
  • Wake Forest 0-1/3-1
  • Louisville 0-2/2-2
  • Boston College 0-2/1-3

ACC Coastal Division

  • Virginia Tech 1-0/2-2
  • Duke 0-0/3-1
  • North Carolina 0-0/3-1
  • Pittsburgh 0-0/3-1
  • Miami 0-0/2-2
  • Virginia 0-1/2-2
  • Georgia Tech 0-1/1-3

Clemson is also a heavy favorite to outright win the ACC, placing them 965 points ahead of NC State, the closest contender. The highest odds getters from the Coastal Division are the Miami Hurricanes, who have yet to play an ACC contest but have already dropped two out of conference games.

2022 ACC Championship Odds To Win

  • Clemson -165
  • NC State +800
  • Florida State +900
  • Miami Florida +1000
  • Pittsburgh +1000
  • North Carolina +1800
  • Wake Forest +3000
  • Syracuse +3500
  • Virginia Tech +10000
  • Duke +12500
  • Louisville +15000
  • Virginia +15000
  • Boston College +50000
  • Georgia Tech +50000

This Saturday, two ACC games featuring potential conference-winning programs are going down, and the following lines for college football betting are taking action now.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons @ Florida State Seminoles

  • Point Spread: Wake +6.5, FSU -6.5
  • Moneyline: Wake +200, FSU -240
  • Over/Under: 64.5

The 23rd-ranked FSU Seminoles will host the 22nd-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons tomorrow at 3:30 PM. Wake needs the win on the road against the Noles, but bookmakers are favoring Florida State by nearly a touchdown for Saturday’s contest.

A Demon Deacons’ loss would result in their expulsion from any CFP contention, but FSU could potentially survive the loss against a quality opponent and make it up with a future win against Clemson.

FSU winning this game is likely the best-case scenario for the ACC, potentially resulting in a showdown of undefeated teams when they meet the winner of this weekend’s NC State vs. Clemson contest.

NC State Wolfpack @ Clemson Tigers

  • Point Spread: NC State +7.0, Clemson -7.0
  • Moneyline: NC State +215, Clemson -260
  • Over/Under: 44.0

Both the 10th-ranked NC State Wolfpack and Clemson are hoping to remain undefeated after tomorrow’s game to keep pace in the ACC. The 7:30 PM kickoff time could be impacted by the remnants of Hurricane Ivan, so interested bettors should keep their eye on the weather report.

The touchdown underdog Wolfpack have been largely untested in 2022-23, and they represent a somewhat unknown quantity in regard to how they stack up against ACC opponents.

That said, NC State’s +215 moneyline should intrigue NCAAF bettors that believe they will beat the Clemson Tigers tomorrow. Payouts of $3.15 can be earned by placing a $1 wager on that prospect, so get busy if you share that belief!
