UFC 273: Is The Korean Zombie Back From The Dead?

Another Saturday, another epic UFC showdown with a compelling main event and a over a dozen solid fights across several competitive divisions.

While we still fancy ourselves boxing fans [Speak for yourself. – Ed.], we appreciate the structure of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Dana White and company know what they’re doing.

The headlining fight, of course, is Volkanovski vs. The Korean Zombie.

As Alexander Volkanovski (23-1, 10-0 UFC) is the reigning UFC featherweight champion, the bout is a legitimate title fight, and the challenger is no pushover.

In fact, that’s how he got his name: he can’t be pushed over.

Like a “zombie,” Chan Sung Jung (17-6, 7-3 UFC) – himself no stranger to the title challenger role – has a tendency to eat shots and keep moving forward.

That’s why, even though he’s completely outmatched on paper, Jung is favored to take the fight to the distance.

Volkanovski – the UFC’s number-three pound for pound fighter and somehow not nicknamed the “Mastodon of Macedon” (opting instead for Alexander “The Great”) – is still strongly favored to win, but this thing should be a marathon, not a one-round wonder.

Volkanovski vs. Jung isn’t the only title fight on the card, however.

In the Bantamweight division, current champion Aljamain Sterling (20-3, 12-3 UFC) and interim titlist Petr Yan (16-2, 8-1 UFC) will face off in a rematch, having previously fought in UFC 259 in March of 2021.

In that fight, Sterling won the Bantamweight championship belt as a result of Yan’s DQ (illegal knee strike), and their rematch – originally slated for UFC 267 and again for UFC 272 – has been a long time coming.
