The NFL preseason begins Thursday night when the Carolina Panthers face the Arizona Cardinals in the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, and the early betting market offers an immediate lesson in the value of comparing sportsbooks.
Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. The matchup opens the NFL’s 107th season and features two franchises represented in the Hall of Fame Class of 2026 by former Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly and longtime Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
Carolina is a one-point favorite across BetUS, Bovada and BetOnline, while the total is set at 35 points. Those numbers make the market appear consistent, but the prices attached to them vary enough to affect a bettor’s potential return.
BetUS lists Carolina -1 and Arizona +1 at -110 on both sides. Bovada is offering Panthers -1 at -112 and Cardinals +1 at -108, while BetOnline has Carolina -1 at -105 and Arizona +1 at -115.
That means a Panthers spread bettor would receive the best available price at BetOnline. A $105 wager there would return a $100 profit, compared with risking $110 at BetUS or $112 at Bovada for the same return.
Cardinals bettors, meanwhile, would find the best spread price at Bovada’s -108. The difference from -110 or -115 may look minor on one wager, but repeatedly accepting worse prices can significantly reduce a bettor’s long-term results.
The discrepancies are more noticeable in the moneyline market. Bovada lists Carolina at -125 and Arizona at +105. BetOnline’s posted prices are Carolina -115 and Arizona -105. Based on those numbers, Carolina moneyline bettors would save 10 cents at BetOnline, while anyone backing Arizona outright would receive a much more attractive plus-money return at Bovada.
Total bettors can also shop the lines for reduced juice. The over 35 is -105 at BetOnline, compared with -110 at BetUS and Bovada. Those considering the under can obtain -110 at BetUS or Bovada instead of BetOnline’s -115.
Finding the best number is especially important when betting on NFL preseason games, as handicapping can be more difficult than evaluating regular-season matchups. Coaches are primarily assessing roster depth, installing schemes and attempting to avoid injuries. Playing-time decisions can change quickly, and the final result may be determined by players who will not have major roles once the regular season begins.
Arizona’s quarterback plan provides one of the game’s more interesting variables. Rookie Carson Beck is expected to start while Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew are rested. Beck was selected 65th overall in the 2026 draft after making 43 collegiate starts across Georgia and Miami, finishing 37-6 as a starting quarterback.
Beck’s experience could make Arizona intriguing to bettors, but his NFL debut will still come with considerable uncertainty. His supporting cast, protection and expected number of possessions may matter as much as his individual ability.
In a game featuring a one-point spread and a low total, paying attention to lineup announcements is essential. Just as important is shopping the odds: bettors may not be able to eliminate the uncertainty of preseason football, but they can avoid paying more than necessary for the same wager.
