Marvel Studios has released the official trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, giving fans their clearest look yet at the massive superhero crossover scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the movie will bring together heroes from the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men universes to confront an existential threat led by Doctor Doom. Robert Downey Jr. returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the masked villain after previously playing Tony Stark and Iron Man.
The trailer’s arrival has also inspired new entertainment betting markets asking which character will ultimately kill Doctor Doom.

Thor enters as the favorite with a +200 moneyline, meaning a successful $100 wager would produce $200 in profit. Captain America follows at +300, while Loki is positioned as the third choice at +500.
The favorites could reflect their established connections to major MCU storylines. Thor possesses the raw power needed to challenge Doom, while Captain America traditionally serves as one of the Avengers’ principal leaders. Loki may also have a major role because of his understanding of timelines and the multiverse.
Mister Fantastic offers an intriguing selection at +600. Reed Richards and Victor von Doom are longtime rivals in Marvel Comics, making their confrontation one of the most natural possibilities in the movie. Other members of the Fantastic Four include The Thing at +700, Human Torch at +800, and Invisible Woman at +1600.
BetUS states that the market will receive no action if multiple characters collectively kill Doctor Doom. Wagers placed after the outcome has been publicly announced will also be void, and the sportsbook’s decision regarding the result is final.
Who Is Doctor Doom?
Doctor Doom, whose real name is Victor von Doom, is traditionally portrayed as the ruler of the fictional nation of Latveria. He is both a brilliant scientist and a powerful sorcerer, combining advanced armor, robotic technology, and mystical abilities.
Doom is most closely associated with the Fantastic Four, particularly Reed Richards. However, his intelligence, political power, and desire for control have also made him a threat to the Avengers, X-Men, and the wider Marvel universe.
That combination of science and magic makes Doom especially difficult to defeat. He can challenge technologically gifted heroes such as Mister Fantastic while also defending himself against supernatural characters like Thor and Loki.
Is Doctor Doom Tony Stark?
Marvel has identified Downey’s character as Victor von Doom rather than Tony Stark. The actor’s return has nevertheless encouraged theories that this version of Doom could be a Tony Stark variant from another universe.
There is currently no official confirmation that Doom is secretly Stark. Marvel’s own announcements describe Downey as returning in a new role, specifically naming the character Victor von Doom.
The physical resemblance could still become part of the storyline, especially when characters who knew Iron Man encounter Doom.
What Happens If Doctor Doom Survives?
Doctor Doom may not die in Avengers: Doomsday. The movie leads directly into Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled for December 17, 2027, and Doom could remain the principal villain for the second installment.
The betting market does not list “Doctor Doom survives” as an option. Its posted rules also do not explicitly explain how wagers will be settled if no character kills him. The most likely outcome would be for BetUS to declare the market no action and refund all wagers
