The NFL is a week-to-week sport. That’s where the focus of the fans and bettors are, but to oddsmakers and NFL ownership, the scoreboard looks a lot different. When odds are created for NFL betting, bookmakers use history as their guide.
That information is not reflected in the current standings. While a franchise may appear to be on solid ground at the moment, its all-time status could have its fans and ownership in panic mode.
Below we’ve ranked the entire National Football League based on the only criteria that really matters – Super Bowl championships.
American Football Conference
AFC East
- New England Patriots 6-5
- Miami Dolphins 2-3
- New York Jets 1-0
- Buffalo Bills 0-4
The mighty Bills have been on a great run since the acquisition of quarterback Josh Allen. Placing Buffalo’s accomplishments against the remainder of the AFC East reveals that they’ve got some work to do. The Patriots are not that great at the moment, but you can see why ownership may be granting coach Bill Belichick a long leash while they get back on track.
The Dolphins have a healthy roster right now, but they’ve not been to the Super Bowl since 1985, Dan Marino’s second season. Don’t look now but that’s nearly 40 years since Miami has sniffed a Lombardi.
AFC North

AFC South
- Indianapolis Colts 2-2
- Jacksonville Jaguars 0-0
- Houston Texans 0-0
- Tennessee Titans 0-0
The AFC South has the fewest total Super Bowl wins, with two overall. The Jaguars, Texans, and Titans have never been to the big game, and none of them seem positioned for a deep postseason run this year. Jacksonville holds the highest odds for betting on the NFL Playoffs, but Houston may be better set up for the future.
The Texans’ first-round pick from 2023, QB CJ Stroud, has paid off immediately, and championship glory could be coming to Houston soon.
AFC West

National Football Conference

- Dallas Cowboys 5-3
- New York Giants 4-1

The division with the most Lombardi Trophies is the NFC East. They may have been the laughingstock of the league a couple of seasons ago, but the all-time scoreboard suggests otherwise.
The Eagles are at the bottom of the standings, but their current lineup offers hope for the future. The odds for betting on the Philadelphia Eagles place them as the third overall team in the NFC futures at the moment.

Outside of the Patriots and Steelers, the greatest NFL legacies belong to the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. The 49ers and Dallas are currently the top two teams in the NFC and hold the highest odds to win Super Bowl 58.
If either team wins SB LVIII, they’ll pull even with New England and Pittsburgh with six Super Bowl titles.
