Week 17 NFL Betting Picks: Eight Playoff Spots Are Unclaimed

Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions clapping his hands

There are only two weeks remaining on the NFL schedule for 2023-24, and there are still eight playoff spots that have yet to be claimed. Most of that business will be settled in Week 17, as many teams are involved in win-and-in games.

Due to the strange matchups this weekend, there aren’t many lines posted at NFL betting sites that are begging us to lay some action. However, there are two betting lines that we’ve decided to act on, and they are as follows.

Detroit Lions vs. Dallas Cowboys Betting Line

  • Lions Point Spread: +6.0
  • Lions Moneyline: +220
  • Cowboys Point Spread: -6.0
  • Cowboys Moneyline: -270
  • Over/Under: 54.0

NFL fans and bettors will be treated to a key NFC matchup on Saturday Night Football at 8:15 PM. Both the Cowboys and Lions have clinched a playoff berth, but postseason seeding will be heavily impacted by the results of this game.

Dallas is coming off of a disappointing loss on the road to the Miami Dolphins, but they remain in the hunt to win the NFC East and the precious top four NFL Playoff seed that comes with it.

The Lions took care of business last weekend, beating the Minnesota Vikings in their house by a final score of 30-26. Detroit has already clinched the NFC North division, a feat the franchise has not accomplished since the 1993 season.

The Cowboys have not lost a game in AT&T Stadium this year, and they are favored to win by six this Saturday. We are betting on the Lions to cover the spread and our staff believes they have a strong chance of winning the game outright.

There is a strong chance that this line will adjust over the next few days in the Lions’ favor so you may want to act now to preserve that six-point gap.

Miami Dolphins vs. Baltimore Ravens Betting Line

  • Dolphins Point Spread: +3.5
  • Dolphins Moneyline: +160
  • Ravens Point Spread: -3.5
  • Ravens Moneyline: -185
  • Over/Under: 47.0

Sunday at 1:00 p.m., the top two teams in the AFC face off in Baltimore for conference supremacy. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is now the odds-leader for betting on the NFL MVP, and he can clinch the number one seed in the AFC with a win this weekend.

If Baltimore can best the Dolphins, they’ll be the clear front-runner for the Super Bowl LVIII championship.

The early word is that Miami Dolpins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle will miss this Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens due to a high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 16 against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dolphins managed to get the win against Dallas without Waddle, but we think his absense gives Baltimore too much of an edge. We are betting on the Ravens to cover the four points.
