What To Expect When Kansas Legal Betting Launches Tomorrow

Kansas legal sports betting is set to make its debut with a soft launch on September 1st.

Kansas legal sports betting kicks off tomorrow morning with a statewide “soft launch.” To help eager residents prepare for the big day ahead, we have compiled a brief spiel detailing what one can expect as sportsbook options begin to roll out.

Soft Launch Schedule

Tomorrow’s activities will kick off at noon local time. Differing greatly from “soft launches” in other legal sports betting states, as it allows for each of the state’s approved operators to participate.

It has only been a week since the Kansas Lottery provided the necessary approvals for licensees. Even so, prospective operators started preparing their contracts and establishments for expansion several months in advance.

When wagering makes its debut, bettors aged 21 and up can look forward to having the retail experience at any of the following two casino locations:

  • Hollywood Casino – Kansas City
  • Kansas Star Casino – Mulvane

Not listed above are the Kansas Crossing Casino in Pittsburg and Boot Hill Resort in Dodge City. Though licensed, the gambling houses have been clear in that they need more time before opening up brick-and-mortar betting to their patrons.

Limited Retail Betting Options

Unfortunately, the spread doesn’t leave many options for bettors on the Northwestern side of the state. However, Kansas’ soft launch is plenty friendly to mobile sports betting apps

These options are even available to players with out-of-state addresses, thanks to the marvel of geo-fencing technology. In partnership with Kansas’ domestic casinos, you can place your wagers on the web with up to six different providers.

The list is as follows:

  • Barstool Sportsbook
  • DraftKings
  • FanDuel
  • Caesars
  • BetMGM
  • PointsBet

With the speed at which sports betting has progressed from legislation to reality, most licensees and gaming officials have had little time to comment on the matter. Out of all the operators setting up shop in Kansas, only one has taken the time to embrace the good news.

Looking At What Comes Ahead

PointsBet Group CEO and Managing Director, Sam Swanell, said this,

“We are excited to be launching on the starting line and having our outstanding sportsbook product available to the people of Kansas from day one. With NFL season kicking off on September 8 the timing is perfect to showcase our NFL in-play betting capabilities in particular.”

The road to legal betting has not been an easy journey for Kansans. But when the state sportsbook revenue begins to roll in, even the harshest critics are expected to sweeten up to the new industry.
