Sunday on Truth Social, President Trump announced his intentions to create a strategic cryptocurrency reserve consisting of holdings of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Solana, and Cardano.
This announcement follows up on Trump’s campaign promise to make the United States the cryptocurrency capital of the world. A reserve will require management from a team of financial experts to maintain its value.
This means that the United States will be actively buying and perhaps selling cryptocurrency assets. The announcement caused a momentary rise in many crypto markets.
As more countries invest, cryptocurrency becomes more legitimate in the eyes of investors.
Values had been lagging over the past two weeks following the North Korean hack of Bybit, which resulted in the successful theft of $1 billion in Bitcoin.
The United States already holds an estimated 200,000 Bitcoins that have been collected via seizures from criminals.
Some industry experts feel that BTC should be the only coin considered for a stockpile.
