Sometime in the late evening hours after 10 PM this Saturday, Dustin Poirier and Islam Makhachev will step into the Octagon and battle for the UFC Lightweight Championship.

Makhachev is the current champion and has lost one match during his lengthy career. The only blemish on his record is a knockout to Adriano Martins nearly nine years ago at UFC 192.

Poirier is a seasoned fighter who famously beat Conor McGregor twice in their best-out-of-three series of epic fights. Dustin has dropped two of his last four contests, and now that he has eight total losses, he may be one defeat away from ever competing at the top again.

However, Poirier is coming off a second-round KO of Benoît Saint-Denis at UFC 299 in March, which earned him Fight of the Night honors.

Lines for betting on Poirier vs. Makhachev are on the boards now at legal online UFC sportsbooks. Despite Dustin’s recent dominant performance, the MMA odds strongly suggest that Makhachev will retain his title this Saturday at UFC 302.
