Trump And Harris Square Off Over Presidential Debate

The first, and what will now be the only, presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden in 2024 resulted in the Democratic Party’s nominee stepping down and passing the baton to his VP.

At the debate, Trump’s performance, or Biden’s lack thereof, jettisoned the former President into a dominant front-runner position in the polls and in the election odds.

Last week, Trump’s campaign appeared less inclined to face Kamala Harris on the stage despite his previously held pro-debate stance.

During an interview with Fox News yesterday, Trump appeared more inclined to debate Harris but didn’t commit to the prospect.

“I want to do a debate. But I also can say this. Everybody knows who I am. And now people know who she is… The answer is yes, but I can also make a case for not doing it.”

The Teflon Don has left himself some wiggle room but seems inclined to participate based on dutiful obligations if anything. Either way, Harris will be present at a debate scheduled for September 10th. Whether Trump will show up has yet to be confirmed.

Political betting sites have weighed in on the subject by producing debate odds for Trump and Harris.

Will Donald Trump and Kamala Harris participate in a presidential debate?

  • Yes -900
  • No +500

This prop will only payout if there is a televised debate between the two current presidential candidates prior to election day. The odds overwhelmingly suggest that the debate will happen, with the probability of “yes” at 90%.

Technically, Trump agreed to a September 10th contest against Joe Biden, so the event could occur on a different date. Donald has also suggested that a channel other than ABC should host the potential square-off because of their left-leaning bias.

“[ABC is] actually trying to make a hero out of Joe Biden when he was the worst president in history, and they were doing things like with Kamala…”

The official rules for the debate were released by ABC last Friday, so the network seems to be committed to the broadcast, even if Trump doesn’t agree to verbally spar with Harris.

As the two campaigns ramp up their rhetoric, we expect more political prop bets to appear regarding any presidential debates. For now, the above odds represent the only line on the betting boards.
