After two weeks of play, nine NFL teams are 2-0, and nine are 0-2. The math suggests that this matrix-like harmonious alignment can’t last much longer, as some franchises are performing above their heads while others have yet to meet even the lowest of expectations.
Two teams that appear to be way ahead of schedule are the Pittsburgh Steelers and the LA Chargers. Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin has added two veteran quarterbacks in the offseason, and Justin Fields, the second-teamer, has the Steelers off to a 2-0 start.
Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh has his squad performing admirably in his first two games back in the ranks of the NFL. Convincing wins against the Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers have them at 2-0, but they’re 1.5-point dogs on the road this Sunday at Acrisure Stadium.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Line
- Point Spread: Chargers +1.5 (-110), Steelers -1.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Chargers +105, Steelers -125
- Over: 36.0 (-105)
- Under: 36.0 (-115)
*We’re betting on the Chargers to cover the 1.5 and think they have a great chance of winning the game.
A Sunday afternoon game of interest is the Lions on the road in Arizona. Detroit is favored by nearly a field goal, but the spread gives us pause, considering each team’s lead-up performances.
Detroit Lions vs. Arizona Cardinals Betting Line
- Point Spread: Lions -2.5 (-120), Cardinals +2.5 (EVEN)
- Moneyline: Lions -145, Cardinals +125
- Over: 51.5 (-110)
- Under: 51.5 (-110)
The Cardinals lost a nail-biter to the Buffalo Bills and then blew out the LA Rams in Week 2. The Lions snuck past the Rams in Week 1 and dropped a game to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home last Sunday.
We’re gaining confidence in Arizona now that Kyler Murray is fully healthy. Rookie WR Marvin Harrison laid an egg in Week 1 but put up monster numbers against the Rams. *Bet on the Cardinals to cover, and don’t be surprised if they win at home.
The Sunday night game will feature the Super Bowl LVIII champion Kansas City Chiefs matching up against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Atlanta Falcons Betting Line
- Point Spread: Chiefs -3.5 (-105), Falcons +3.5 (-115)
- Moneyline: Chiefs -180, Falcons +155
- Over: 46.5 (-110)
- Under: 46.5 (-110)
We rarely side with a road favorite with an advantage of 3 points or more, but that’s where the good money is this Sunday night. Kirk Cousins is improving on a weekly basis, but he’s still not 100% healthy following last season’s Achilles injury.
KC has beaten arguably the two best teams in the AFC North, defeating the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals in consecutive weeks. They’ve done this largely without the use of tight end Travis Kelce, as the Chiefs’ wide receivers have improved drastically in 2024-25.
*Bet on the Chiefs to cover Sunday night.
