NFC South Betting Preview: Buccaneers Favored In Wide-Open Division Race

NFL football logoThe NFC South enters the 2026 NFL season without a clear Super Bowl heavyweight, but that could make it one of the more interesting divisions for futures bettors. Tampa Bay is favored to finish first, yet New Orleans, Atlanta, and Carolina all sit within striking distance in the divisional market.

Current odds at NFL sportsbooks list the Buccaneers at +205 to win the NFC South, followed by the Saints at +250, Falcons at +300, and Panthers at +350. Tampa Bay also has the shortest Super Bowl LXI odds among the four at +7000, suggesting oddsmakers view the Buccaneers as the division’s most legitimate postseason threat.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • NFC South: +205
  • NFC Championship: +2800
  • Super Bowl LXI: +7000

Tampa Bay remains the team to beat, and Baker Mayfield gives the Buccaneers stability at quarterback that makes them easier to trust than some of their divisional rivals. During joint practices with the Jets, Mayfield led the first-team offense on a successful two-minute touchdown drive, while new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson has been installing additional wide-zone concepts.

Defense could ultimately determine whether Tampa Bay just wins the South or becomes a serious NFC contender. Improving the pass rush was a major offseason priority, leading to the additions of Al-Quadin Muhammad and first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. Bain has already been making noise in camp and is the current +475 favorite for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

New Orleans Saints

  • NFC South: +250
  • NFC Championship: +4000
  • Super Bowl LXI: +9000

New Orleans is priced surprisingly close to Tampa Bay and could be one of the more intriguing futures plays in the division.

Tyler Shough returns as the Saints’ QB1 under head coach Kellen Moore, with New Orleans also adding weapons around him. First-round receiver Jordyn Tyson has been one of the most important additions and is currently +3500 to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Saints have spent August testing themselves against several opponents, including joint practices with Jacksonville, Dallas, and the Rams.

At +250, New Orleans may offer better value than its +9000 Super Bowl price suggests.

Atlanta Falcons

  • NFC South: +300
  • NFC Championship: +4000
  • Super Bowl LXI: +12500

Atlanta presents perhaps the biggest risk-reward opportunity. Bijan Robinson remains the centerpiece of the offense and is currently +850 to win Offensive Player of the Year. The Falcons also secured Robinson with a three-year contract extension during training camp.

The bigger issue is Atlanta’s defense. Jalon Walker will miss the season after tearing his ACL, while James Pearce Jr. has been suspended for the first eight games. Atlanta responded by signing veteran pass rusher Za’Darius Smith.

Those defensive concerns help explain why Atlanta has a +12500 moneyline in the odds for betting on the Super Bowl despite sitting only slightly behind New Orleans in the division market.

Carolina Panthers

  • NFC South: +350
  • NFC Championship: +4500
  • Super Bowl LXI: +9000

Carolina is technically the NFC South long shot, but +350 is hardly an impossible number.

Bryce Young’s continued development remains the biggest reason for optimism. His chemistry with Tetairoa McMillan has been evident throughout camp, including multiple big connections during Carolina’s August 19 joint practice with Jacksonville.

The Panthers have also strengthened the defense by adding Devin Lloyd and Jaelan Phillips, while veteran tight end Darren Waller was added to the offense on August 17.

With Tampa Bay at only +205, there is no overwhelming favorite here. For bettors looking beyond the Buccaneers, Carolina’s +350 division odds provide the largest payout in what appears to be a legitimately competitive four-team race.
