Djokovic and Williams favored to add the 2019 US Open title to their collections

Djokovic and Williams

The tennis Grand Slam circuit is finally back in the United States.

The Main Draw of the 2019 US Open started this week. With the odds to win available, the sport’s top-ranked athletes are among the best chances to hoist the trophy on the famed blue courts in New York City.

On the men’s side, MyBookie gives the top three players in the rankings the best odds to win the men’s singles championship: Novak Djokovic (-120), Rafael Nadal (+100), and Roger Federer (+400).

For the women, it is not as uniform. Serena Williams, the six-time US Open winner that is currently ranked eighth, has the best odds to win the US Open women’s singles at +300.

The 2019 Wimbledon champion Simona Halep has second-best odds at +600, followed by Ashley Barty (+700) and Karolina Pliskova (+800). The number-one ranked woman, Naomi Osaka, only has +900 odds to win the US Open.

The ATP number-one player, Djokovic, is the reigning US Open champion and is coming off his 2019 Wimbledon win in July. With this momentum, Djokovic’s 54.55% chance of winning is fitting. However, it won’t be an easy road to capture his fourth title with Nadal and Federer in the tournament.

Nadal, number-two overall in the rankings, win the French Open this June. If he can persevere through the knee injuries that have plagued him the last couple of years, Nadal’s 50% chance at the US Open title could come to fruition.

Federer hasn’t won a major tournament since his 2018 Australian Open victory, but a 20% of winning for the veteran could be more than enough needed in New York.

John Isner, the highest-ranked American at #14, has +8000 odds to win the US Open.

Like Federer, Williams is in a Grand Slam drought, relatively speaking. Williams has not won a major since the 2017 Australian Open. Despite this, Williams has the best odds to win the US Open on her home soil at +300 or 25% overall.

Halep could ride her Wimbledon high to a second-consecutive Grand Slam title in 2019. Her +600 odds give her a 14.29% chance to win the US Open. For perspective, Halep only had a 5.88% chance to win Wimbledon and that didn’t stop her.

Although Osaka is the #1 WTA player, her +900 odds only equate to a 10% chance of winning the tournament. Even with winning the US Open in 2018 and the Australian Open earlier this year, oddsmakers at MyBookie only list Osaka with the fifth-best odds.

To watch the 2019 US Open, ESPN and ESPN2 will air matches daily through the men’s final on September 8. The network will also live-stream every court on ESPN3 and ESPN+.

A full list of US Open participants is below, separated by the ATP and WTA and ranked by their odds to win the tournament.
