On Tuesday, the College Football Playoffs Selection Committee issued their first rankings for the 2024-25 season, revealing the top 25 programs and the strategy they’ll use in anticipation of the 12-team format.

The oddsmakers at college football sportsbooks must also adjust to the new CFP format, delivering futures that adhere to these unfamiliar rules and qualifiers.

College Football Playoff Rankings

  1. Oregon 9-0
  2. Ohio State 7-1
  3. Georgia 7-1
  4. Miami 9-0
  5. Texas 7-1
  6. Penn State 7-1
  7. Tennessee 7-1
  8. Indiana 9-0
  9. BYU 8-0
  10. Notre Dame 7-1
  11. Alabama 6-2
  12. Boise State 7-1
  13. SMU 8-1
  14. Texas A&M 7-2
  15. LSU 6-2
  16. Mississippi 7-2
  17. Iowa State 7-1
  18. Pittsburgh 7-1
  19. Kansas State 7-2
  20. Colorado 6-2
  21. Washington State 7-1
  22. Louisville 6-3
  23. Clemson 6-2
  24. Missouri 6-2
  25. Army 8-0

With the Power 5 now reduced to four conferences and the SEC and Big Ten possessing most of the top teams, seeds three, four, and twelve could be granted to some questionable qualifiers.

Boise State is projected to win the Mountain West Conference, and if their ranking holds, they’ll probably end up with the 12 seed. However, because of pressure from programs like the Army Black Knights, BSU will need to finish the season without any more losses.

2024-2025 CFP Odds To Win

  • Ohio State (#3) +350
  • Georgia (#2) +375
  • Oregon (#1) +500
  • Texas (#5) +550
  • Miami Florida (#4) +1100
  • Tennessee (#7) +1500
  • Alabama (#11) +2000
  • Penn State (#6) +2200
  • Indiana (#8) +3300
  • Mississippi (#16) +3500
  • Notre Dame (#10) +3500
  • LSU (#14) +4500
  • Army (#18) +5000
  • Clemson (#19) +5000
  • SMU (#13) +5500
  • BYU (#9) +7000
  • Boise State (#12) +7000
  • Colorado (#21) +10000
  • Iowa State (#17) +10000
  • Texas A&M (#15) +10000

If the season ended today, the BYU Cougars would qualify as the 4-seed under the assumption that they’d win the Big 12 Championship. Bookmakers at CFP betting sites suggest that 4th spot will be given to Army, assuming they finish undefeated and become the AAC Champions.

The top three seeds will go to the champions of the Big Ten, SEC, and ACC – that much seems to be certain. After that, the waters became muddy.

Futures imply that the #1 seed will be granted to either Ohio State or Oregon, whichever one wins the Big Ten Championship. The loser will earn the #5 seed.

The Indiana Hoosiers are 8-0 and are included in both the CFP odds and the top 12 rankings. They’re historically known as a basketball school, but this year, the Hoosiers are getting things done on the gridiron.

Indiana closes out the season with games against the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Purdue Boilermakers. If they can make that run with only one loss, they’ve got a great chance of making it into the playoffs.

The reason is that they’ll likely miss the Big Ten Championship Game with a loss due to their ranking, cementing a one-loss season.
