Betting On The College Football Playoffs In November

If the College Football Playoffs began today, the Georgia Bulldogs would not be a part of the 12-team bracket. GA’s loss this weekend to Texas has cemented the Longhorns as the front-runners in the SEC.

The Alabama Crimson Tide now find themselves back in the mix for the SEC Championship with their win over the LSU Tigers.

The Oregon Ducks retain the top position this week and appear to be on cruise control until they meet either the Indiana Hoosiers or the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Big Ten Championship Game.

CFP Rankings – November 12, 2024

  1. Oregon (10-0)
  2. Ohio State (8-1)
  3. Texas (8-1)
  4. Penn State (8-1)
  5. Indiana (10-0)
  6. BYU (9-0)
  7. Tennessee (8-1)
  8. Notre Dame (8-1)
  9. Miami (9-1)
  10. Alabama (7-2)
  11. Ole Miss (8-2)
  12. Georgia (7-2)
  13. Boise State (8-1)
  14. SMU (8-1)
  15. Texas A&M (7-2)
  16. Kansas State (7-2)
  17. Colorado (7-2)
  18. Washington State (8-1)
  19. Louisville (6-3)
  20. Clemson (7-2)
  21. South Carolina (6-3)
  22. LSU (6-3)
  23. Missouri (7-2)
  24. Army (9-0)
  25. Tulane (8-2)

The fifth-ranked Hoosiers are off this weekend, but they play the Buckeyes in Columbus on November 23rd. The winner will earn a spot in the Big Ten title game. If Indiana loses, there’s a decent chance they’ll make the CFP if they beat the Purdue Boilermakers and finish the season with one loss.

Another college football program that is never a part of the national championship picture is the Army Black Knights. They are undefeated and on pace to win the AAC title, but their next game is against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on November 23rd.

Army is ranked 24th this week heading into their bye and could usurp Boise State as the 12 seed with a win over an 8th-ranked Notre Dame.

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are ranked 17th and will make it to the Big 12 Championship if they win out, where a victory over the BYU Cougars would jettison CO into the CFP and a top-four seed.

According to CFP betting sites, the Miami Hurricanes are the most likely team to qualify for the playoffs out of the ACC. However, the SMU Mustangs are undefeated in the conference and are situated ahead of Miami and the Clemson Tigers entering the final weeks of 2024.

The Mustangs remaining games are all winnable, so either Miami or Clemson could find themselves without a ticket to the ACC Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The game that will impact the standings the most on Saturday is a matchup between the Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers. Georgia is playing at home and is favored to win by a point spread of -10.5.

If that betting line is accurate, the Dogs could leap Alabama in the overall standings despite their loss to them in September.
