The college football season is nearing its grand finale, and all eyes are turning to one of the sport’s most prestigious nights: the Heisman Trophy ceremony. This year’s presentation takes place on Saturday, December 14, and will be broadcast live from New York City.

Fans can tune in on ESPN beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern Time to see which finalist will become the season’s best college football player.

At the moment, online college football betting sites are featuring a three-way logjam at the top of their Heisman Trophy odds.

Different Heisman favorites are being offered, giving gamblers room to shop the lines and get the best payout. Bovada is favoring Ohio State’s Julian Sayin, while the remaining books have Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza in the lead.

Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia is rated ahead of Mendoza at Bovada and is ranked third at the three remaining sportsbooks.

Heisman Leaders Stat Comparison

Player Passing Rushing
Julian Sayin (Ohio State) 3,065 yd, 30 TD, 5 INT, 78.9% completion rate 27 yards
Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt) 3,192 yd, 27 TD, 8 INT, 71.2% completion, 9.4 yd/att 826 yards, 9 TDs (12 games)
Fernando Mendoza (Indiana) 2,758 yd, 32 TD, 5 INT, 72.0% completion, 9.4 yd/att 243 yards, 6 TDs (12 games)

While Sayin is not a rushing threat like the other two contenders, what’s eye-popping is his incredible touchdown-to-interception ratio as well as his completion percentage.

Pavia’s passing prowess rates just underneath Sayin’s, but when you add his impressive rushing numbers into the mix, he had the superior statistical season. The Commodores’ 10-2 win-loss record could keep Diego from winning.

What’s also working against Pavia is that his team’s regular season is over. Both Medoza and Sayin have an additional game to play, which will pad their stats and keep them fresh in the minds of Heisman voters.

A Heisman win for Mendoza is likely riding on whether the Hoosiers win the Big Ten Conference Championship Game.

The Big Ten Championship Game Betting

Indiana vs. Ohio State Betting Line

  • Point Spread: Indiana +4.0 (-110), Ohio State -4.0 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Indiana +165, Ohio State -195
  • Total (Over/Under): Over 47.5 (-110), Under 47.5 (-110)

The Buckeyes are favored by four points against the Hoosiers this Saturday. If that forecast is accurate, then there’s a high likelihood that Sayin wins the Heisman.
