Arizona sports betting enthusiasts may now rejoice! All state-licensed athletic wagers became legal as of September 9th. The Grand Canyon State had to overcome several major obstacles, one of which threatened to completely suspend sports betting operations the week before opening.
The RunDown on AZ Sports Betting
HB2772, signed by Governor Doug Ducey, authorized sports betting for mobile and online operators as well as retail locations. The sports betting legislation was written with few restrictions, only prohibiting betting on injuries or penalties, NCAA props, and youth athletics.
Besides those three restrictions, all bets are virtually fair-game. Because the state’s gaming providers and Gaming Commission only had four months to get ready for kick-off, many of the state’s sportsbooks have yet to open.

Retail Betting To Open By 2022
- BetMGM will partner with Gila River Casinos to open in-person betting locations at the Wild Horse Pass, Lone Butte, and Vee Quiva casinos.
- Barstool Sportsbook is set to open a retail location in 2022 at the Phoenix Raceway
- Caesars Sportsbook is working on renovations to Chase Field’s Game 7 Grill. The area will be turned into a betting lounge and is expected to finish construction in early 2022.
Sportsbook Selections Still To Grow
There is an ample number of selections available to Arizona sports bettors and that list will only grow. Most of the state’s tribal sportsbooks have yet to open.
Nonetheless, tribal casinos will now be allowed to host craps and baccarat games, an exclusive feature many are likely to implement as soon as possible.
