Shannon Sharpe Steps Down From ESPN Amid Sexual Assault Lawsuit

Shannon Sharpe

NFL Hall of Fame tight end and popular television and streaming host Shannon Sharpe is being sued for $50 million by a woman accusing him of sexual assault. The suit claims that Sharpe raped the woman twice last October and once in January.

Now that information regarding the lawsuit has gone public, Sharpe has stepped down from his on-air roles at ESPN, vying to return when the preseason in the NFL begins later this summer.

There has been no comment as to whether Club Shay Shay, his YouTube interview show, will continue over the coming months.

“At this juncture I am electing to step aside temporarily from my ESPN duties. I will be devoting this time to my family, and responding and dealing with these false and disruptive allegations set against me. I plan to return to ESPN at the start of the NFL preseason.”

The NFL preseason begins with the Hall of Fame game on July 31st. Will Sharpe’s legal issues be wrapped up in time for his potential return? Also, will ESPN welcome him back into the fold?

Odds have been posted at online sportsbooks that ask whether his case will be concluded by July.

Will The Lawsuit Against Shannon Sharpe Be Dismissed Before July 2025?

  • Yes +1000

Will Shannon Sharpe Settle The Claims With His Accuser Before July 2025?

  • Yes +800

The moneylines on a settlement or a case dismissal before June 30 indicate that these proceedings will last well into July. The +1000 odds set on Sharpe getting the case dismissed convert to a 9% chance of occurrence.

The odds of +800 are slightly better for a settlement, but that still only reflects an 11% chance of happening.

The oddsmakers at BetUS Sportsbook could be basing these moneylines on allegations that Sharpe has already offered his accuser a settlement that was north of $10 million. That offer was allegedly refused by his accuser.

The downward spiral for Sharpe has picked up speed as these allegations have led to other information becoming public. Sharpe was accused of choking a female co-worker while a member of FS1. The company settled with the women for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Michele Evans, an ex-girlfriend of Sharpe, has also stated that their relationship was abusive and ended in rape. Evans filed a restraining order against Sharpe in 2010.
