The 2023-24 NFL season begins in less than two weeks, and there are still a few high-profile players seeking a trade from their current team. Some players have the potential to impact the Super Bowl odds of the franchise they sign with, but there are salary cap requirements and trade demands to think about.
Jonathan Taylor – RB, Colts
Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts is the player on the trading block that can make the most immediate impact on the team that signs him. Although considered one of the top running backs in the game, the Colts have allowed Taylor permission to seek a trade.
Taylor is entering the final year of his rookie contract that will award him with $4.3 million. Typically, when franchises don’t extend rookie deals of players entering the final year, it is an indicator that the team intends to move on after the contract lapses.
The Colts have requested a future first-round draft pick in exchange for Taylor, and so far, no franchises have stepped up and met their demand.
Teams Trying To Trade For Jonathan Taylor
- Miami Dolphins
- Chicago Bears
- Denver Broncos
The Miami Dolphins have been interested in landing a big-time RB this offseason. Their attempts to acquire Dalvin Cook were unsuccessful, as he is now a member of their AFC East rival, the New York Jets.
Miami has made an offer for Taylor that was rejected by the Colts, but the two parties continue to negotiate.
Trey Lance – QB, 49ers
Second-year QB Brock Purdey has secured the starting nod for the San Francisco 49ers, with former New York Jet Sam Darnold locking up the backup spot.
That leaves Trey Lance as the third-stringer. He’s now expendable, and San Francisco appears welcome to any offers for his services.

There are odds for betting on NFL teams that are potentially interested in signing Lance, and the Vikings hold a slim lead over the Falcons and Rams.
Trey Lance Odds For Next NFL Team
- Minnesota Vikings +300
- Atlanta Falcons +400
- Los Angeles Rams +400
- Miami Dolphins +500
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers +600
- Las Vegas Raiders +900
- Green Bay Packers +1200
- Pittsburgh Steelers +1200
Minnesota makes sense as a landing spot for Lance. Current starter Kirk Cousins will become a free agent after this season, and there is no real contingency plan in place for the future.
The Rams could be a nice fit for Lance as well. The odds for betting on the LA Rams tie them for second place with the Falcons. Trey could serve as the incumbent for Matthew Stafford.
The only question is whether Rams head coach Sean McVay believes that he works within their offensive scheme. The Dolphins are on the boards as an interested party, and that could be due to coach Mike McDaniels’ time with Lance while he was on the staff of the 49ers.
