March Madness Betting: UConn’s Lead Grows In Sweet 16 Odds

Sweet Sixteen text surrounding by three UConn Huskies players

The top 8 seeds in the 2024 March Madness bracket are still alive as the Tournament enters the Round of 16.  March Madness odds are now posted for betting on the Sweet 16, and while the top four teams in the NCAAB futures maintain the same order, the favorite to win has extended their lead.

The UConn Huskies entered the tourney as the 1-seed in the East Bracket and the favored team to win it all in 2024. On March 18th, Connecticut held a +400 moneyline to win the NCAA Men’s College Basketball National Championship.

Today, the Huskies are a +200 favorite to win, cutting their odds in half after two games.

2024 March Madness Sweet 16 Odds

  • Connecticut (#1) +200
  • Houston (#1) +500
  • Purdue (#1) +600
  • Arizona (#2) +800
  • Tennessee (#2) +1100
  • North Carolina (#1) +1200
  • Marquette (#2) +1500
  • Iowa State (#2) +1800
  • Duke (#4) +2200
  • Gonzaga (#5) +2200
  • Creighton (#3) +2500
  • Illinois (#3) +3000
  • Alabama (#4) +3500
  • San Diego State (#5) +7500
  • NC State (#11) +8000
  • Clemson (#6) +8500

There’s good reason, too. UConn roasted Stetson 91-52 in the first round and then steamrolled Northwestern 75-58. A popular sleeper pick this year was the Auburn Tigers, but they were beaten by Yale in the first round, clearing the path in the East for UConn.

Up next for the Huskies in the Sweet 16 is the 5-seed San Diego State Aztecs.

San Diego State vs. Connecticut Betting Line

  • Point Spread: Aztecs +10.0, Huskies -10.0
  • Moneyline: Aztecs +375, Huskies -525
  • Over/Under: 135.5

Online sportsbooks have placed San Diego State as a 10-point underdog, suggesting that the Huskies will advance to the Elite 8 for the second time in as many years.

Oddsmakers are not projecting the Huskies vs. Aztecs to be a tightly contested matchup, but is there a chance of any other competitive games during the Sweet 16?

Will Any Game Go To Overtime in the Sweet 16?

  • Yes +215
  • No -295

Legal online College Basketball sportsbooks have posted the above March Madness prop bet, which implies that there will not be any overtime games.

The Creighton vs. Tennessee and Illinois vs. Iowa State betting lines feature a point spread of -2.5 or less, so there is plenty of potential for a few of these Sweet 16 games to remain close into the final minutes.

The Houston Cougars are the second-rated program in the current March Madness futures, a position they have held since before the tournament began. Houston faces the 4-seed Duke Blue Devils this Friday, and they are a 4-point favorite to win.

The #11 NC State Wolfpack holds the lowest remaining seed. They are one of four ACC teams still in play, alongside the North Carolina Tarheels, Clemson Tigers, and Duke.
