New Year’s Eve at 7:30 PM, the second round of the College Football Playoffs begins with the 6th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions going up against the 3rd-seeded Boise State Broncos.
Penn State vs. Boise State Betting Line
- Point Spread: Penn State -11.0 (-105), Boise +11.0 (-115)
- Moneyline: Penn State -460, Boise +340
- Over: 52.5 (-110)
- Under: 52.5 (-110)
The first CFP betting matchup of round 2 features a gargantuan gap in the point spread, favoring the Nittany Lions by a whopping 11 points. The Broncos’ only loss of the season was by three points to the number one team in the nation, the Oregon Ducks.
That said, BSU hasn’t beaten anyone of significance, and they’ll be put to the test on Tuesday night.
On New Year’s Day at 1:00 PM, the Big 12 champion Arizona State Sun Devils are a nearly two-touchdown underdog to the 5th-rated Texas Longhorns.
Texas vs. Arizona State Betting Line
- Point Spread: Longhorns -13.5 (-110), Sun Devils +13.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Longhorns -525, Sun Devils +375
- Over: 52.0 (-105)
- Under: 52.0 (-115)
The odds at college football betting sites favor the Longhorns to win it all this year. If they get by ASU, they’ll play the winner of the Ohio State-Oregon game.
Later on January 1st at 5:00 PM, the Ohio State Buckeyes and Oregon Ducks match up for what many expected to be the pairing featured in the Big Ten Championship Game.
Ohio State vs. Oregon Betting Line
- Point Spread: Buckeyes -2.5 (-115), Ducks +2.5 (-105)
- Moneyline: Buckeyes -135, Ducks +115
- Over: 55.5 (-105)
- Under: 55.5 (-115)
The Buckeyes are projected to hand the Ducks their first loss of 2024-25, even though Oregon bested OSU by a point at home back in October. The Buckeyes’ last game was a loss to an unranked Michigan team, so we’re unsure why oddsmakers have so much confidence in them vs. Oregon.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Georgia Bulldogs wrap up the second round of the 2024-25 CFP. Kickoff is set for 8:45 PM, and the winner will play the victor between Boise State and Penn State.
Notre Dame vs. Georgia Betting Line
- Point Spread: Irish +2.0 (-110), Bulldogs -2.0 (-110)
- Moneyline: Irish +105, Bulldogs -125
- Over: 44.0 (-110)
- Under: 44.0 (-110)
Georgia is the defending CFP National Champions, but their starting quarterback, Carson Beck, is out for the remainder of the season after getting surgery on his elbow on Monday.
The point spread favors the Bulldogs by two over the Fighting Irish despite Georgia being down to their second QB, Gunner Stockton. GA managed to win the SEC Championship after Beck was injured in the first half of the game, but Stockton struggled against Texas, leaving a lot of doubt as to how he’ll perform against ND.
