The Confirmation Hearing of President Donald Trump’s cabinet selections stretches into another day as Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel will be grilled by the US Senate Judiciary Committee this morning.
Online sportsbooks have created betting odds on both Gabbard and Patel’s chances today, and one of them appears to have some tough sledding ahead if the props are accurate.
Betting On Tulsi Gabbard
Tulsi Gabbard is a former US Representative from Hawaii who is in line to become the next National Intelligence Director. Gabbard ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat but flipped Republican and threw her support behind Trump during the 2024 election cycle.
Her Senate Confirmation hearing is set for this morning, and election betting sites have produced odds on whether Gabbard will become the next NI Director.
Will Tulsi Gabbard Be Confirmed By The US Senate for National Intelligence Director?
- Yes -140
- No +100
This prop favors Gabbard’s approval, but the odds for “no” are set at even money.
Tulsi Gabbard: Number of Senators to Confirm
- Over 49.5 Senators -120
- Under 49.5 Senators -120
Anyone seeking approval from the committee only needs support from half the room because J.D. Vance serves as the tie-breaker in his role as Senate President. Vance issued the tie-breaking 51st vote for Pete Hegseth, the newly appointed US Secretary of Defense.
According to these odds, there’s an equal chance of Gabbard receiving over or under 49.5 yeas.
There are currently 53 Republicans, 45 Democrats, and 2 Independents that side with the Democrats in the US Senate. At least four votes in opposition are required to disqualify any of Trump’s cabinet picks.
Betting On Kash Patel
Kash Patel has been picked by Trump to be the new director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Today at 9:30 a.m., Patel’s confirmation hearing with the Senate Judiciary Committee will begin.
If confirmed, Patel will replace Christopher Wray, who was appointed director by Trump in 2017. The position of FBI director is supposed to be a 10-year term, but Trump stated that Wray would not remain in that role if he were elected president.
Political prop bets for Patel’s confirmation suggest another close vote that will be split among party lines.
Kash Patel: Number of Senators to Confirm
- Over 50.5 Senators -400
- Under 50.5 Senators +250
Patel has been critical of the FBI in the past, and he’ll face some tough questions regarding his prior stances in today’s hearing. Most Republicans seem to be in favor of Patel’s appointment, which is the reason his odds of success are so certain on the morning of his hearing.
