The totals being reported in the monthly state-by-state sports betting revenues are staggering over the third and fourth quarters of 2023. Since September, legal sports betting states across the US have come close to or set new all-time highs for revenue, handle, and profits.
Gambling on sports always picks up once the NFL and college football seasons begin each fall. This year, the American public has shown a level of comfort with the topic of sports betting due to its expansion across the country.
This comfort is reflected in the data, as each day, it seems that more people are betting on sports at domestic books.
One state that has been left out of this market explosion is Vermont. Legal sports betting in VT was given the green light by Governor Phil Scott in June, but local sportsbooks are still dormant as we approach New Year’s Eve 2023.
That status will change on January 11th, 2024, as three mobile and online vendors have been permitted to begin operation on that date.
Online And Mobile Sportsbooks In Vermont
- Fanatics Sportsbook
- DraftKings Sportsbook
- FanDuel Sportsbook
Each of the above vendors has signed six-year agreements with the Vermont Division of Liquor & Lottery (the governing body of VT sports betting), allowing them to offer legal gambling services via their website and mobile sports betting apps. Players in the area can preregister now and hit the ground running once lines begin taking action next month.
Forecasts of up to $7 million in annual revenue from sports betting seem pessimistic, as online and mobile wagering has proven to be much more convenient to customers than driving to a local venue. VT doesn’t have a small population, but they’ve maximized their profit potential by offering online books.
Cash Only Sportsbooks In VT
If you want to bet on sports in Vermont next month, be sure to have some cash handy. Bank transfers or debit cards will be accepted to fund online sportsbook accounts. For now, no bets can be made using credit cards.
While VT missed out on a profitable fall, domestic sportsbooks are opening in time to accept bets on the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl 58, routinely the most wagered-upon game of the year.
The minimum age for Vermont sports betting is 21. While this may exclude the 18-to-20 gambling market, offshore sportsbook sites will still cater to players under 21.
Right now, bettors are either relying on offshore gambling sites in VT or visiting one of the many surrounding states that provide online options as soon as you cross the border.
