When browsing online entertainment sportsbook sites, Scarlett Johansson is typically confined to the realm of betting odds for the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and other annual award ceremonies that honor the top actors for that given year.
Johansson is still trying to earn her first Oscar, but her current sights are set on receiving what she believes to be her rightful paycheck total from Disney, the producers of her latest hit film “Black Widow,” of which she is the titular character.
Black Widow is a member of the Avengers and has been a part of the movie series for many years, and the release of her solo character film, unfortunately, coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Johansson’s contract included profit-sharing provisions that awarded her a piece of the theatrical ticket sales, but Disney’s decision to sell it via their streaming services has alerted her legal team and a lawsuit over the remaining dollars is now in play.
“Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract and furthermore, the release of ‘Black Widow’ on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20 million she has received to date,”

The issue is multi-pronged. Johansson clearly expected to earn more from her share of a film based in the Marvel Universe. With it being released during the pandemic, it was already going to experience lower ticket sales than expected.
The inclusion of pay-per-view streaming not only cut into those already low theatrical sales, but also represents a fiscal avenue that Scarlett Johansson wasn’t granted a percentage of in her contract.
Those streaming dollars are the main target of this lawsuit, and even though Disney came out strong with their statements in opposition to Johansson’s allegations, entertainment prop bets are now predicting that the case will end in a settlement.
